Dr Wayne Mahmoud, founder of CPD Health Courses, is a successful Osteopath & Acupuncturist who wanted to do offer more to his customers.
CPD Health Courses presents Dry Needling course to health professionals in all the capital cities in Australia. They offer more Dry Needling courses than any other continuing professional development education provider.
Their growing business trains over 1200 students a year. The unique thing about the Dry Needling courses they offer is that all the theory is done online. Leaving students with only the practical course to complete at their nearest location.
Wayne combined his knowledge & expertise with his desire to offer more to every customer and launched an app that brings the techniques that are presented in his dry needling courses into the palm of every student’s hands.
More and more, professionals are realizing the value in creating an app and how it can present their knowledge in a new and exciting way reaching more people around the world.
Want to know how to do this for yourself?
Firstly, don’t think this only works in situations where you’re getting millions of downloads.
It takes commitment. With a marketing plan and a little savvy in the field of digital marketing, however, you can take your talents further than you’d ever think you could take them.
Heck, you may even be able to quit your day job.
Let’s see what Wayne did to turn his educational website into an app with impressive potential.

What Prompted Wayne to Strive for More
“Our business is in two parts. We have the training part where we are teaching dry needling and the support part afterwards which is the video training membership site that people join up to help remind them of what they learned at the practical course and the theory that they completed. The app is an extension of our business which offers even more support to our students. We realise that people are learning through multiple platforms and we want to give our customers the flexibility to learn wherever & however they want to.”
So I engaged Jarrod and the App Match team to develop the Dry Needling Video Training App, since the launch we’ve never looked back. We have the App available both on the Google Play & iTunes App Store. We’ve had almost 3000 App downloads.
“An app seems the logical progression for us to use technology to help our customers get the most out of the information that we are teaching them. The app was created to help our customers and to help make it easier for them to access information, that we make it safer and more effective for them to carry out dry needling to help their patients.”
Now that you know why Wayne wanted to do more with his business, let’s talk about what he did to get where he is now.
How Wayne Went About the Launching and Promotion of His App
Wayne first thought about the idea of an application after hearing a podcast. The interview involved Jarrod Robinson, founder of The App Match.
Jarrod was interviewing a gentleman by the name of James Schramko, and was captivated by not only how successful James’s apps made his businesses, but how he promptly created more apps, after experiencing such profound, initial success.
Wayne reached out to Jarrod, skyped him, and put a plan in motion.
Which brings us to an important point: Always have a concrete plan regarding the steps you’re going to take to promote and launch your app.
Take it from Wayne himself:
“I came up with a proposal and the plan for who it was aimed at, who our market was, what the content would be and the strategy of launching it. He and his team put that together for me.”
Jarrod stood by Wayne’s side the entire time while he got his ideas off the ground.
Wayne’s Dry Needling Training App also involved the creation of a new logo, one which gradually evolved through consistent brainstorming.
How Wayne Got The App In Front Of Customers
As far as promotion is concerned, Wayne has been taking an active approach:
“We are promoting the app to a list of customers that we have through Activecampaign (email software). We promote the app with every practical course and telling people about the app. We have a short video that explains what the app does, how to download it and explaining that it’s free and how it is going to help them, help the student.”
Wayne isn’t shying away from creating awareness of his application. He also plans on using giveaways as incentives to review the app; this adds credibility to his cause and also spreads awareness of the application.
“We also have a competition to give away a voucher for some dry needling supplies for people who offer a review on either store.”
Launching and promoting an application is often a powerful one-two punch, but what’s a blow if it doesn’t land where it means to?
Planning is a critical component of successful product launching and promotion, as is illustrated by the way Wayne carried out his campaign.
Helpful Hints and Takeaways From Wayne’s Experience
From the information above, it’s easy to see how valuable professional skills can be when it comes to launching a new product, service, or business.
If you’re a professional in any form of occupation that gives knowledge in some way, such as an educator, you’re well-equipped to make more money outside of your job.
Wayne took his established business and turned it into an app that only does one thing: it makes the information he teaches more accessible, especially to those who primarily use mobile devices.
We’ve just talked a lot about Wayne’s experiences; let’s break them down into several points, all of which can help you experience the peace of mind Wayne experienced when starting to shift his business to the mobile world.
- Connect with a reputable application creator – In Wayne’s case, he heard about Jarrod of The App Match. In addition to aiding in the creation of the app, Jarrod also helped Wayne develop a proper marketing plan.
- Free the product – Making an app free can significantly boost the number of downloads it’ll get. On a less obvious note, freeing out an app can easily (and non-abrasively) give you the opportunity to promote functions of the app that require payment of some type.
Take a look at what Wayne did, for example:
“So it is actually free because although the content on there is very rich in terms of the amount of information that is on there that is free, it also has a membership link to it so that it can allow you to log in to the video training site which has all the videos that are shown in my practical course.”
- Market your app in every corner of your existing business – Wayne saw success with this, in particular, because he promoted his new application in every video, lesson, and lecture he put out on his site.
Don’t hesitate to do this, even if you don’t have an established online business. If you’re a teacher, for example, promote your product or application to your students and other members of the facility that you teach at.
That, in itself, is truly how to make more money as a teacher.

Leveraging apps to make knowledge more accessible
Wayne wanted to look for different ways to expand the knowledge he already successfully taught to many students and professionals in the world of manual therapy.
Using the successes of his current practice and website, he transformed his knowledge into a more accessible version: an application.
Wayne hasn’t been the only one to do this successfully, however; it’s easier than you’d think!
You can, especially if you’re a teacher or professional of any form, monetize your knowledge in ways that might seem out of reach.
What’s the key to success here? As we’ve just talked about, it’s realizing that the ceiling of your teachings isn’t teaching itself.
